About

I am Robert A. Babel. I live in Killen, Alabama, and I am originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am an IT infrastructure and systems administration professional with 9+ years of experience supporting enterprise, education, and manufacturing environments. I work with Windows and Linux servers, network infrastructure, virtualization, endpoint management, identity administration, and automation.

Since 2024 I have been a remote systems administration and network administrator consultant for the Russell County Board of Education in Seale, Alabama. I was systems administrator and network administrator there from 2021 to 2024, and a technical systems support specialist from April 2017 to September 2019. That environment has more than 5,000 technology devices, including Windows and Linux servers, network infrastructure, endpoints, and virtualized systems. From October 2019 to May 2021 I was a technical systems support specialist at Mando America in Opelika, supporting IT in a manufacturing plant.

I am completing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at the University of North Alabama in Florence. My GPA is 3.77, and I received the Scholarship of Distinction in Information Technology. In May 2019 I earned an Associate in Applied Science in Information Technology from Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, with a 4.0 GPA. My certifications are CompTIA A+ CE, CompTIA Network+ CE, CompTIA Server+ CE, CompTIA Security+ CE, and TestOut Certified Server Pro 2016. I also hold an FCC Amateur Radio Technician license, KD8SOY.

Before this career I was an apprentice and journeyman electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 212 in Cincinnati, from June 2006 to March 2015. I installed and upgraded electrical and data wiring on commercial and industrial projects, including work for General Electric Aviation, DuPont, Procter & Gamble, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. In 2015 I left the electrical trade and returned to school for information technology.

My first real job, in 1999, was designing a website for a car dealership and updating it weekly with pictures of new and used cars. I worked there for about a year. After high school I worked in security for companies in the Cincinnati area, including malls and a theme park. Contact me at 513-502-0759 or [email protected]. I am also on LinkedIn and GitHub. The full list of roles and skills is on my résumé.
